Former Norfolk State assistant basketball coach Dr. Kelvin Lynum is taking on a new role as he was named the athletic director at Jackson State Community College (TN.)
Dr. Lynum spent the last two seasons as an assistant coach on Larry Vickers’s staff where his contributions helped the program compile a 53-13 overall record, 24-4 within the MEAC, winning back-to-back conference tournaments and NCAA appearances.
Before his time at NSU, he was the athletic director at Southeast High School in Bradenton, FL from 2020-22. In this role, he presided over 22 athletic programs, one of which claimed a FHSAA State Championship.
He was previously on the Florida A&M women’s coaching staff from 2018-20. He was named interim coach late in the 18-19 season, winning his first game. Lynum had the interim tag removed from his title at the season’s end and was able to double the win total from the previous season to 6.
Dr. Lynum was the top assistant and recruiting coordinator at Winthrop for the 2017-18 season where he was instrumental in bringing on board Big South All-Freshman Team selection Anika Riley. In his one year as head women’s basketball coach at Northwest Kansas Technical College, he led the squad. 28-2 record and an NJCAA Region VI Tournament.
Lynum also served as the top assistant and recruiting coordinator for the women’s basketball at Southwestern College. He began his coaching journey in the 2013-14 season as the top women’s basketball assistant coach and recruiting coordinator at Warner University.
